⚖️ Masses & ground-state properties

AMDC — AME2020 & NUBASE2020

Atomic Mass Data Center (IAEA / IMP-CAS) · évaluation

The Atomic Mass Evaluation and NUBASE: recommended masses, Q values and ground/isomer properties.

ⓘ Guide

Contenu

AME2020: atomic masses (mass excesses), binding energies, separation energies and reaction/decay Q values for ~3 500 nuclides with uncertainties and the input-data network. NUBASE2020: half-lives, spins, decay modes and excitation energies of ground and isomeric states.

Mode d’emploi

  1. Download mass_1.mas20.txt (ME, binding energy/A, beta Q), rct1.mas20.txt and rct2_1.mas20.txt (reactions), and nubase_4.mas20.txt (states) as fixed-width text.
  2. Read the column description: '#' replaces a decimal point for estimated values; '*' means unavailable. Retain separate flags for values and uncertainties.
  3. Use published reaction uncertainties: evaluated masses are correlated. Adding individual mass errors in quadrature does not reproduce these uncertainties.
  4. For quantities without a published reaction column, use the covariance file when applicable or explicitly label independent-error propagation.

Conseils

The chart's AME reference uses published energies and evaluated uncertainties where tabulated. New-mass and model calculations remain separate. Cite the original AME/NUBASE papers.

Mode d’emploi

  1. Follow the NSDD repository link and choose the program for the required evaluation task.

Vocabulaire des données

Evaluated vs. experimental data

Experimental (compiled) data are the published numbers of single measurements (EXFOR, XUNDL). Evaluated data are recommended values obtained by critically averaging all measurements, resolving discrepancies and filling gaps with theory (ENSDF, AME, ENDF). Use evaluated values for applications; cite the original measurement when you compare with one experiment.

Mass excess Δ

Δ = (M − A·u)c², the difference between the atomic mass and A atomic mass units, in keV. AME tables give Δ; the atomic mass is M = A + Δ/931 494.10242 keV (in u).

'#' in AME / NUBASE

A '#' marks a value estimated from the smooth trends of the mass surface (systematics), not a measurement. Its uncertainty is the evaluators' estimate.

Jπ notation

Spin and parity, e.g. 0+, 9/2−. Values in parentheses are tentative, '#' values come from systematics, several values separated by commas are possible assignments.

ENSDF 80-column format

Fixed-width records: identification (ID), level (L), gamma (G), beta (B), EC (E), alpha (A) and comment (C) records. Modern access via JSON exports and the LiveChart API is easier for programs.

ENDF-6 MF/MT numbers

MF is the file (data type: 1 general, 2 resonances, 3 cross sections, 4 angular, 5 energy distributions, 8 decay, 33 covariances); MT is the reaction (1 total, 2 elastic, 16 (n,2n), 18 fission, 102 (n,γ), 103 (n,p)…).

EXFOR entry / subentry

An entry (5 characters, e.g. 14523) is one experiment/paper; subentries (.002, .003…) hold individual data tables. The first character tells which data centre compiled it.

NSR keynumber

YYYYAaNN — year, first-author code and running number (e.g. 2021Ge05). Used as references in ENSDF/XUNDL.

Uncertainty notation

1.234(12) means 1.234 ± 0.012 (one standard deviation, in the last digits). Evaluations add uncertainties in quadrature and may inflate them (Birge ratio) when data disagree.
